Title: Study on Poly-attributive,Poly-adverbial and Complicated Verb Phrases——Discussion with the editors of Modern Chinese,Huang and Liao
Abstract: Whether the attributive and the adverbial in phrases have more than one layer doesn't depend on how many layers or how complicated structures you use.It depends on its inner grammatical structure layers.Only a single layer is a mono-level attributive or a mono-level adverbial.More than one is a poly-attributive or a poly-adverbial.In such patterns asAdverbial+Verb+Objectand Adverbial+Verb+Object, verb phrases analysis should also depend on its inner grammatical structure layers. One layer can't be analysed into two or three for the sake of convenience, neither can other complicated verb phrases.Just because of these key points,Huang and Liao(Note:the surnames of the two editors),who declaimed to use Hierarchical Analysis instead of Head Words Analysis, often made errors when extending the fourth supplement edition to Modern Chinese. Therefore, the whole rigorous and scientific grammatical structure theory system of the teaching materials is weakened to a certain degree.
