Title: Distribution of HCV HVR1 quasispecies in patients infected with HCV of different genotypes
Abstract: Objective: The relationship between HCV HVR1 quasispecies complexity and HCV genotypes was investigated in order to study the difference of pathogenicity of HCV of different genotype. Methods:The differentiation of HCV genotype was detected by using polymerase chain reaction with core region type-specific primers. HVR1 quasispecies were examined with the method of polymerase chain reaction-mediated single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP). Results:Forty-nine(72%) of 68 patients were infected with HCV of genotype Ⅱ, 13(19%) with HCV of genotype Ⅲ, 6(9%) with coinfection of genotype. The complexity of HCV HVR1 quasispecies(number of SSCP bands)was higher in patiants with genotype Ⅱ and coinfection than that in those with genotype Ⅲ, and the complexity was related with the progress of disease. Conclusion:The different distribution of HCV HVR1 quasispecies in different genotypes may be one of factors of different pathogenicity in HCV.
