Title: A Study of the Correlation between Processing Strategies and Tolerance of Ambiguity in Listening Comprehension of College English
Abstract: For second language learners, English listening is the key when it comes to communicating with others in English. The cultivation of students’ ability in this sphere is a vital task in language teaching. Owing to various differences existing between Chinese and English, many Chinese students are confronted with a large amount of ambiguous information in such aspects as words, concepts, syntax rules and cultures. Being unable to resort to their mother tongue to solve these ambiguous problems, students are faced with many challenges. Besides, it calls for certain tolerance of ambiguity from students to deal with the ambiguous information. Therefore, how to lead students to actively tackle the ambiguous information and cultivate their tolerance of ambiguity becomes outstanding.
