Title: The Investigation of Polyethylene Surface Modification by Cold Plasma Induced Grafting Polymerization of Acrylamide
Abstract: This paper studies the surface modification of polymer by plasma-induced polymerization method. The influence of grafting reaction condition on the grafting ratio is investigated by using polyethylene as a polymer substrate, acrylamide as a grafting monomer. The higher the reaction temperature is,the higher the grafting ratio is.The grafting ratio sharply increases when the reaction temperature reaches the boiling temperature of the reaction solution. The grafting ratio proportionedly increases with the monomer concentration. The grafting ratio increases along with the prolonging of the reaction time. The solvent has great influence on the grafting reaction. The grafting ratio is not zero for ethanol or isopropanol, zero for methanol, when the volume ratio R(R=V(H2O)/V(CnH2n+1OH))is zero. The grafting ratio is as follows,(isopropanol and water)≥(ethanol and water) (methanol and water) at the same volume ratio R.It is confirmed by ATR-FTIR analysis that acrylamide is grafted onto the polymer surface.
