Abstract: This articls aims at examining the similarities and differences between artistic and cosmic creation in the Chinese and Western cultural traditions in order to discover models of artistic creation in these different cultural contexts. The author believes that a writer or an artist born out of and nurtured by the Chinese model is not an omniscient and omnipotent “divine creator”as is defined by the western model, but he is not a passive transmitter either, who “transmits but not creates”.He is a creative transformer. After describing such a model of creation as transformation, the author will discuss in details Jin Shengtan's discourse on the maker of the text. She will detail Jin Shengtan's concepts of event and text, literary mind and artistic methods, loyalty and reciprocity so as to reveal how Jin Shengtan defines the maker of the text's ontological significance as well as his important duties and functions in the production of a narrative text.
