Abstract:Motion behavior of a spherical conducting particle near polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) insulator in inhomogeneous electrical field is experimentally observed.According to the initial position of the pa...Motion behavior of a spherical conducting particle near polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) insulator in inhomogeneous electrical field is experimentally observed.According to the initial position of the particle,its trajectories can be divided into three conditions,i.e.levitating after horizontal motion along grounded electrodes,levitating directly,approaching to insulator horizontally.According as the tilt angle of the high voltage electrode varies from(3.5°) to-3.5°,the horizontal motion direction of the particle which is located in the range of 1cm from insulator will also change.It is also considered that the different shapes of insulators lead to different motion trajectory of particle.The variation of the angle between insulator and the grounded electrode influence the attraction of insulator to the particle.When the angle is acute,the attraction of insulator to the particle is the most remarkable.Using the finite element method(FEM),the electric field distribution is numerically calculated in 2-dimension model as the particle is located near the insulator.It is showed that the motion behavior is seriously influenced by the distorted electric field around insulator.Read More
