Title: Treatment of profound sensorineural hearing loss with m ultichannel cochlear implantation
Abstract: Objective:To analyze the surgical indications, operation methods, prevention of com- plications and outcome of 36 cases of cochlear implantation to provide experience for the further development of this operation. Methods:Thirty-six cases with profound hearing loss received cochlear implantation. Routine transmastoid facial recess approach was performed in these cases. The reasons of complications were analyzed and the special cases were handled and satisfactory extent of patients was obtained with questionnaire after 6 months to 4 years following-up. Results: All electrodes of 36 cases were implanted successfully in one time, and the insertion depth of electrode reached the requested standard. That all of the electrodes were proved in cochlear was confirmed postoperatively through anteroposterior orbital plain film. The complications were rare. The satisfactory rate of acoustic linguistic function was up to 72.2% (26/36)after six months to four yeas’follow-up. Conclusion:Multichannel cochlear implantation is a useful method to restore the hearing of the patients with profound hearing loss.
