Title: Clinic Study of Evaluating the Risk for Postoperative Patients in ICU with POSSUM and APACHEII Scoring System
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinic significance of POSSUM and APACHEⅡscoring systems in estimating the risk for postoperative patients in ICU.Methods A retrospective study was made on 166 postoperative patients in ICU who were submitted to be assessed by the POSSUM and APACHEⅡscoring systems respectively.Their length of ICU stay and mortality were recorded and compared. Results In 166 cases, the score of POSSUM was 39.2±8.7 and predicted mortality was 32,while the score of APACHEⅡwas 7.5±3.6 and predicted mortality was 19.The length of ICU stay was(1.6±1.2)d.The actual mortality was 28 and the score of POSSUM was 68.6±18.4 and the APACHEⅡscore was 22.6±5.3.The length of ICU stay was(2.8±1.9)d.Both POSSUM and APACHEⅡ could predict the mortality of the patients(P0.05),while the latter underestimated the mortality(P0.05).Conclusion POSSUM and APACHEⅡ scoring systems could be applied as important tools in evaluating the risk for surgical postoperative patients in ICU.Compared with APACHEⅡ,POSSUM scoring system which involves operative severity would be more suitable for surgical postoperative patients.
