Abstract: Objective To explore the superiority and effect of using problem basic learning (PBL) and evidence-based medicine(EBM) in general surgery practice. Methods Eighteen clinical interns at Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University who are from The 2007 Capital Medical University five years undergraduate basic medical courses were divided into 3 groups, each group of 6 people. Using actual cases in department of general surgery as the research data; Using PBL combined with evidence-based medicine; Using problem basic learning; Making full use of the learning tool for the evidence analysis, justifying the authenticity of the evidence, to train clinical thinking on purpose. Applying questionnaire and test of theory to investigate positivity of study, self-evaluation, degree of satisfaction for teaching, interest to department of general surgery and knowledge acquisition. Results Eighteen interns participated in the examination. Seventeen of them got good grades. They believe PBL combined with evidence-based medicine in the new teaching mode is better than the traditional teaching way. It arouses the - enthusiasm of learning, improves the ability of thinking and learning. It is conducive to the cultivation of clinical thinking systematically. Three teachers believe, compared with the past teaching, PBL combined with evidence\|based medicine teaching methods can better stimulate interns learning interest, help to establish evidence\|based medicine thinking. It can make interns to grasp the knowledge more firmly and thoroughly, answers written are more normative and orderly.ConclusionsWe can utilize EBM to solve the clinical problems in response to the questions, finding and evaluating the evidence, comprehensive analysis and applying the evidence to guide the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and can make full use of advantages of PBL teaching method. We can get satisfactory results in clinical clerkship through combining together the two teaching modes.
