Title: Analysis of Difference Between Measured Value and Code Specified Value for Impact Coefficient of Girder Bridge
Abstract: The difference between the measured value and code specified value for impact coefficient of girder bridge may result in the tendency that the evaluation of actual conditions of bridge structure will be conservative or unsafe.Taking the measured value as the statistic sample, this paper analyzes the tendency and formation cause of the difference between the measured value and code specified value. The results of the analysis show that the difference between the measured value and specified value for the impact coefficient is generally great and is particularly true of the continuous girder bridge owing to the numerous influential factors like the natural vibration characteristic and traveling speed of vehicles, the vehicle-bridge frequency coupling and the bridge deck unevenness. The value specified for the impact coefficient of the continuous girder bridge having span length of 30~50 m in the Code 2004 is slightly unsafe or the safety reservation is slightly inadequate, the value specified for the impact coefficient of the bridge having span length longer than 30 m in the Code 1989 is slightly unsafe and the probability of the impact coefficient peak value to appear at the traveling speed of 20~30 km/h is the greatest. In such case,at the time the code specified value is used for evaluation of the carrying capacity of the bridge structure, the various influential factors should be comprehensively well considered.
