Title: Prx1 overexpression in human oral leukoplakia
Abstract: Objective To examine the antioxidant Prx1 and 8-OHdG expression in human oral leukoplakia and to investigate their role in the pathogenesis of oral leukoplakia. Methods Expression of Prx1 and 8-OHdG was detected in 10 normal oral mucusa and 40 oral leukoplakia including 10 hyperplasia,15 oral leukoplakia with mild epithelial dysplasia and 15 oral leukoplakia with moderate epithelial dysplasia by immunohistochemistry. Results The MOD values of Prx1 and 8-OHdG in the oral leukoplakia with moderate epithelial dysplasia were significantly higher than those in the normal oral mucusa, oral leukoplakia and oral leukoplakias with mild epithelial dysplasia(P0.01).Conclusion Prx1 and oxidative injury may be involved in the pathogenesis of oral leukoplakia.
