Title: Complications and treatment of cases complicated retinal detachment by with silicone oil injection
Abstract: Objective To analyze the efficacy and complications of vitreoectomy with silicone oil injection for complicated retinal detachment. Methods Nine cases of complicated retinal detachment received silicone oil therapy and were followed up 10 to 20 months (average 12 months). The longest case following-up with silicone oil retention in the eye was 20 months, while the shortest with silicone oil taken out was 3 months after surgery because of emulsification. Results The visual acuity and retinal reattachment of all patients were improved in different degrees. The main post operative complications were complicated cataract, secondary glaucoma, silicone oil emulsification and cornea degeneration. The main complications after oil taken-out were retinal detachment, oil residuel in the eye, secondary glaucoma. Conclusion Vitreoectomy with silicone oil injection is effective for complicated retinal detachment. Complications can be minimized with suitable treatment.
