Title: Performance and Management of Alfalfa Pasture
Abstract: Alfalfa pasture is esteemed for its relatively low cost, high forage quality, and insurance of good animal performance. However, alfalfa cultivars used for making hay cannot withstand trampling and are unsuitable for grazing due to bloat risk.To avoid these shortcomings, alfalfa cultivars with grazing tolerance, and alfalfa pasture management techniques have become an indefatigable research topic.Related studies on grazing alfalfa breeding and animal bloat have been summarized in other papers. The present article reviews alfalfa pasture management, including grazing methods, time, and intensities etc.,proper utilization of grazing for cow, beef cattle and sheep, and how all this affect the performance of different livestock species,in order to provide guidelines for alfalfa pasture management.
