Title: Correlation between Coping Style and Mental Status of Male Nursing students
Abstract: Objective To explore the correlation between coping style and mental status of male nursing students.Methods A survey was conducted for 105 male nursing students in Guangzhou through Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and SCL-90.Results(1) Scores of SCL-90 factors were significantly lower than the college students norm(P0.01),and scores of compulsion and psychotic factors higher than adult norm(P0.01).(2) The common styles adopted by male students included hobbies,recreational and sports activities(37.1%),being optimistic(36.2%) and change of mind and finding importance(35.2%).(3) Negative copying styles of male students were positively related with factors of SCL-90(r=0.360~0.479);the correlation of positive copying styles with factors of mental health were not statistically significant(P0.05).Conclusion Male nursing students enjoy a better mental health than common college students,and employ both positive and negative copying styles,while negative coping styles is positively related to mental health.
