Title: "Connection" Beneath Confrontation——A Stylistic Interpretation of Howards End
Abstract: E.M.Forster was mainly active in British literary circle in the 1910s and 1920s.Traditional reviews often approach his works from his themes.This paper believes a stylistic analysis of Forster's novels helps to reveal his themes.By studying his Howards End with the help of the system put forward in Style in Fiction by Geoffrey N.Leech and Michael H.Short.The paper employs a text-based analysis to prove that the novelist's revelation of the reality of confrontation between two classes and a wish to connect is achieved through diction,narration,and discourse.
