Title: Model test and numerical simulation on hydraulic condition in spillway tunnel of Xiaowan Hydropower Station
Abstract: The spillway tunnel is one of the three flood discharge structures of Xiaowan Power Station;of which the water head between the upstream water level and the outlet flip bucket is over 200 m with the maximum flood discharge is 3 881 m~(3)/s.The hydraulic condition in the tunnel is very complicated with a typical characteristic of high head and large discharge.Based on the combination of both the numerical simulation and model test(model scale ∶1 ∶35),a new layout of the tunnel is studied and optimized herein.The results show that the layout of long pressure inlet for the tunnel is reasonable.However,because of the higher height of aerator and lower Froude number,no air cavities are formed at the end of the free flow ogee section.Two methods can be used to solve this problem: 1.lowering the elevation of the ogee end of the tunnel to increase the Froude number;2.laying a secondary slope under the aerator to decrease the angle between flow and bottom plate.
