Abstract:The effects of nitrogen application(60,120,180,240 kg N·hm~(-2)) on the forage dry matter yield(DMY) and quality of alfalfa in seasonal cultivation system were studied in field experiments in the lowe...The effects of nitrogen application(60,120,180,240 kg N·hm~(-2)) on the forage dry matter yield(DMY) and quality of alfalfa in seasonal cultivation system were studied in field experiments in the lower Yangtze river region.The results of 2 years experiment showed that with increasing nitrogen fertilizer application,plant height,shoot number,leaf area/plant and shoot weight all increased gradually.Total DMY maximum values of both tested years were 11440 and 11769 kg·hm~(-2) at 180 kg N·hm~(-2) treatment.In our research,the increase of nitrogen application had a little impact on the forage quality of each cutting.The forage crude protein(CP) and in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD) were improved in the treatments of 180 and 240 kg N·hm~(-2),whereas neutral and acid detergent fiber(NDF,ADF) contents decreased slightly.In conclusion,the best nitrogen application rate is 180 kg N·hm~(-2) for alfalfa with seasonal cultivation in the lower Yangtze river region.Read More
