Title: Synthesis and application of starch-based flocculant initiated by potassium peroxodisulfate-urea in aqueous two-phase system
Abstract: Redox system consisting of potassium peroxodisulfate and urea was used to initiate grafting copolymerization of acrylamide onto starch in aqueous two-phase system. The effect of initiators ratio, composition of dispersed medium, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the grafting copolymerization was studied. The results indicate that the optimized conditions are as follows: PEG was used as dispersing agent and its mass concentration is 6%,n(K2S2O8)∶n(AM) is 1.1∶1×104,n(K2S2O8)∶n[CO(NH2)2] is 1∶2.5,initiation time is 15 min, polymerization time is 6 h,and reaction temperature is 50 ℃.Under these conditions the aqueous two-phase system shows the better stability and its phase separation in post treatment is easier, meanwhile, monomer conversion is 97.4%,grafting yield is 121.4%,and the inherent viscosity is 435 mL/g.The resulted starch-based flocculant shows good effect in treatment of porcelain clay waste water.
