Title: The Depressive Experiences Questionnaire:Prediction of Depressive Symptoms in a Sample of Chinese Undergraduates
Abstract: Objective To investigate the prediction of depressive symptoms of the DEQ in a Chinese sample of undergraduates. Methods 640 Chinese university students completed the DEQ-C and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D).Six months later, the CES-D was re-administered.Results Prediction was demonstrated by hierarchical multiple regression analyses in which Self-criticism could predict increased depressive symptoms both in males(β= 0.27,P 0.01) and in females(β= 0.16,P0.05);Dependency could predict levels of depressive symptoms only in females(β= 0.11,P 0.05).Conclusion The Self-criticism of DEQ-C can predict increased depressive symptoms both in males and females, while the Dependency only can predict increased depressive symptoms in females.
