Title: Surface Disinfection of Dental Drill and Handpiece:An Experiment Study
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To use Four methods for desinfecting on the surfaces of the dental drills and the handpieces with 75% ethyl alcohol, Hi-STRON instantaneous disinfector, low temperature formaldehyde-steam disinfector, JB85C-Ⅱ ultraviolet radiation disinfecting vehicle in order to selecc an ideal method for disinfection on the surfaces of the dental drills and the handpieces in stomatological department. METHODS The dental drills and handpieces were exposed to air for 15 hours. Samplings were done before and after disinfection with 4 different methods separately. Samples were cultivated for bacteria, the procedure was repeated for 50 times. Samples from papers with same area and same bacteria amount before and after disinfection with 4 different methods were used as a control and this precedure was repeated for 25 times. The bacteria cultivation result was analyced statistically. RESULTS The samples taken from dental drills and handpieces (49 times) and from control papers (25 times) after disinfection with low-temperature formaldehyde steam were cultivated with negative results. CONCLUSIONS Disinfection with low-temperature forlmaldehyde steam for dental drills and handpieces is an effective method.
