Title: Analysis of clinical effect of surgical treatment in 85 cases of chronic suppurative otitis media
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical effect of surgical treatment of chronic otitis media.METHODS 85 of 91 cases with chronic otitis media patients treated in our hospital from May 2009 to Mar.2011 were chosen as the research subjects.According to the scope of disease and the situation of eustachian tube function,open or closed-type or modified radical mastoidectomy were selected.Patients were followed up for 6 months.The hearing and speech frequency pure tone air conduction hearing threshold,the complications of patients were observed for statistics analysis.RESULTS There were 2 cases of wound infection occurred,1 cases of facial paralysis,and 4 cases of vertigo in 1 month after the surgery.After 6 months,4 patients had re-tympanic membrane perforation(4.4%).The pure tone air conduction audiometry speech frequency average hearing threshold test results 6 months after treatment significantly improved compared to before treatment(P0.05).The hearing of 62 cases(64 ears) was improved,accounted for 70.3%.There was no improvement for the hearing in 20 cases(24 ears),accounted for 26.4%.3 cases(3 ears) had the hearing declined,accounted for 8.3%.CONCLUSION For the bone ulcer type,simple type cholesteatoma and patients with chronic otitis media failed with medical treatment,it will need to select appropriate surgical treatment according to the lesion and eustachian tube function,which can quickly remove the disease and prevent serious intracranial and external complications,and benefit to the patients′ hearing.
