Title: A study on a UV photochemical composite initiation system applied to the grafting of acrylonitrile onto corn starch
Abstract: Corn starch gelatinized by sodium hydroxide was grafted with acrylonitrile (AN) in presence of photoinitiators, benzophenone (BP) or/and benzoin ethyl ether (BE),under UVlight.A composite initiation system containing BP and BE was proposed to overcome the homopolymerization.By designing the time schedule of addition of both the components, results showed BP and BE form an efficacious composite initiation system, which can not only initiate the graft copolymerization with percent synthetic polymer(%addon) of 32%,but also avoid homopolymerization in the process of grafting with graft efficiency ( E %) as high as 92%.
