Abstract:Objective To compare the serum-aseities albumin gradient(SAAG)and exudate-transudate concept in the differential diagnosis of ascites.Methods A total of 53 paired sera and ascitic fluid data were retr...Objective To compare the serum-aseities albumin gradient(SAAG)and exudate-transudate concept in the differential diagnosis of ascites.Methods A total of 53 paired sera and ascitic fluid data were retrospectively collected from patients with well-characterized causes of ascites.30 patients with aseites were portal-hypertension-related and 23 patients were not related to portal hypertension.Diagnostic accuracy of the serum ascites albumin gradient and previously proposed markers for the separation of ascites into transudate and exudate were compared.Results The serum-ascites albumin gradient had a diagnostic accuracy of 94.34%,superior to that of the total ascitic fluid protein(84.91% ).Conclusion Serum ascites albumin gradient is superior to the exudate-transudate concept in the differential diagnosis of ascites.Read More
