Title: STUDY ON THE CHEMICAL OSCILLATION OF IRON-DIPYRIDINE SYSTEM AND ITS APPLICATION TO VALENCY ANALYSIS OF IRON
Abstract: Chemical oscillation was observed in the iron-dipyridine reaction system, and its main characteristics were studied.Under irradiation, the colorless coordination complex formed between(Fe(Ⅲ)) and dipyridine in an acetate buffer medium of pH 4.0(pH 3.0~5.5) was transformed into the red colored coordination complex(λ_(max) 526 nm) of Fe(Ⅱ) and dipyridine due to photo-reduction.Ammonium fluoride was found to be an efficient inhibitor for this photoreduction reaction.Ferrous iron was determined photometrically with dipyridine as color reagent in the presence of ferric iron when 0.5~1.5 mL of 10 g·L~(-1) NH_4F solution were added.Based on the above findings,a method for the determination of both Fe(Ⅱ) and Fe(Ⅲ) iron was proposed. In the analysis of some simulated samples, the recoveries for Fe(Ⅱ) and Fe(Ⅲ) obtained were in the ranges of 99.0%~99.7% and 99.5%~103.0% respectively.
