Title: Reproductive Peculiarities of Segregating Inbred Strain of Yuyi Hairless Mice and Breeding of a New HLC Inbred Strain Mice
Abstract: The anatomo-histological structure and function of the reproductive system of Yuyi hairless mice were studied and contrasted to age-matched haired mice. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the hairless mice and haired mice in position, appearance, histological structure and estrous cycle.Hairless males are obviously fecund, but its reproductive stage is shorter.Hairless females are fertile as well, but reduced in reproductive capability, lower in pregnancy rates, impaired in mammary gland function, display abnormalities in maternal behavior, and nurse its pups improperly. It is rare that the pups survive 3 days after birth.Haired heterozygous mice possess normal reproductive capability. The hairless mutant gene has pleiotropic effects, not only affects integument, but also works on reproduction.Furthemore, through the full sib-mating inbred a new inbred strain mice named with HLC were established. Then, genetic monitoring was conducted by the skin grafting test, cost color test and biochemical marker analysis, and its basic biological characteristics were studied with corresponding methods. The results indicated that the HLC mice with unique biological characteristics have been bred successfully and have progressed to 30th generation since 1991.The result of genetic determination showed that the gene loci should be homogenous. The HLC was proved to be an inbred strain fitting the international standards.
