Title: Preparation and Properties of PLA Grafted with Maleic Anhydride Through Reactive Extrusion
Abstract:Functionalization of polylactide(PLA) has been performed by means of melt grafting reaction of maleic anhydride(MAH) initiated by dicumyl peroxide(DCP) in a corotating intermeshing twin-screw extruder...Functionalization of polylactide(PLA) has been performed by means of melt grafting reaction of maleic anhydride(MAH) initiated by dicumyl peroxide(DCP) in a corotating intermeshing twin-screw extruder. The effects of the processing condition and the composition of reaction mixture on the properties of polylactide grafted maleic anhydride product(PLA-g-MAH) were investigated. The results show that the excessive screw rotation speed or a higher reaction temperature can lead to the degradation of PLA or the decreasing of the percentage of grafting. The desired graft content(Percentage of grafting ≥0.45%) with minimal degradation can be obtained by controlling these factors(MAH content=2%,DCP content=0.35%,reactive temperature=180 ℃,screw rotation speed=100 r/min).SEM proves that PLA-g-MAH improves the compatibility between PLA and starch effectively.Read More
