Title: Adverse influences of water and sediment regulation on lower reach of Yellow River in Shandong Province
Abstract: The elevation variations of the riverbed of the Shandong reach of the Yellow River in recent years were compared and analyzed through data collection and investigation. The results show that water and sediment regulation enabled continual erosion of the main channel of the Shandong reach of the Yellow River and improved its flood control capacity, but caused many problems, including difficulty in drawing water through the diversion gate from the Yellow River, decrease of the guaranteed rate of diversion, and aggravation of sedimentation in channels. It is proposed that the construction and maintenance of reservoirs in plain areas are the key issues for the future water supply from the Yellow River.
