Abstract:Based on industrial experiments,the influence of low frequency rotary electromagnetic stirring(EMS) on solidification structure of austensitic and martensitic stainless steel in continuous casting was...Based on industrial experiments,the influence of low frequency rotary electromagnetic stirring(EMS) on solidification structure of austensitic and martensitic stainless steel in continuous casting was investigated.The results indicate that the excellent surface quality and good billet solidification structure of stainless steel can be obtained with appropriate electromagnetic stirring parameters by the application of low frequency electromagnetic field.Columnar grains and equiaxed grains are evidently refined and EMS can reduce center porosity,shrinkage cavity and cancel intracrystalline and improve equiaxed grains zone widens. the equiaxial crystals in the center of the billet of martensitic stainless steel comes up to 50% and even to the maximum of 57%,central porosity is below level 1.5 and more than 90% of the central shrinkage cavities belong to level 1.0 and below.Industrial trials show that the stirring intensity of stainless steel is higher than that of plain carbon steel.These offer reference for the optimization of processing parameter and design when using rotary electromagnetic stirrer.Read More
