Title: On Ethnologic View of Hua'xin by Chen An of the Tang Dynasty
Abstract: In terms of ancient ethnologic views,the Tang Dynasty played an important role not only in its development and evolution but also in its formation and completion,in which various ethnologic views were expressed throughout the hierarchy of rulers,thinkers,literates,historians and average scholars so as to offer multiple theoretical options of solving the existing complicated ethnic problems.As a representative article in this field,the author believes,Hua'xin(literally The Heart of China) by Chen An covered two aspects as its main content: the extension of the concept of Hua(mainly Han Chinese) and Yi(non-Han Chinese);study of the consciousness of ethnic recognition;and value of as the center.Ethnologic views in Hua'xin rooted in three fields: rise of the thought of distinguish between Hua and Yi,fact of the ethnic integrations,and prosperity of economy and culture.The views also deeply influenced ethnologic thoughts and policies in later Tang Dynasty.
