Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinic application of the treatment of crossbite of first molar with mandibular fixed lingual arch.Methods Fourteen patients with first molar crossbite were treated with m...Objective To investigate the clinic application of the treatment of crossbite of first molar with mandibular fixed lingual arch.Methods Fourteen patients with first molar crossbite were treated with mandibular fixed lingual arch to reduce the width of first molar.Measure the length between central fossa and gingival margin of lingual side of first molar and observe the changes in occlusion relationship.Results The mean time of using the mandibular fixed lingual arch was 2-5 months.After the treatment,all the first molars returned to normal occlusion.Significant difference was noted(P0.05) in the width of central fossa of first molar before and after the treatment,but there was no significant difference in gingival margin of lingual side of first molar(P0.05).The result maintained after 1 year.Conclusions The mandibular fixed lingual arch could be an efficient method to reduce the width of first molar to treat the crossbite of this area.Its mechanism is to make molars lingually oblique by contracting lingual arch through molar bands.Read More
