Title: The Syntactic Interpretation of the Derivation of English Restrictive Relative Clause
Abstract: This thesis,in the framework of wh-movement and head movement, offers a unified syntactic interpretation to English restrictive relative clause in terms of linguistic facts especially its derivation process. With our analysis,we find that, there is wh-movement in English restrictive relative clause, and the movement must satisfy the requirements of empty category principle and subjacency condition. What is different from wh-question is that no head movement is involved. After movement,a restrictive relative clause CP is generated, which in turns adjoins to DP,and the clause is linked to the main clause,as a result,a complete sentence is derived.
