Title: Effects of Taurine on the Growth and Physiological Properties of Cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)Seedlings
Abstract: Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) seedlings were grown in taurine solution at concentrations of 10、100、500、1000 and up to 5000 mg·L-1, the growth indexes and the relative permeability of membrane、membrane lipid peroxidation product and photochemistry efficiency in cucumber seedlings were determined. The results show that taurine treatments distinctly promoted the growth of cucumber seedlings and high quality seedling forming of cucumber to a certain extent. In the tested group, growth indexes such as root length, plant height, root-dry weight and top-dry weight, index of high quality seedling and root-top ratio increase significantly as compared with that in the control. In addition, the photochemistry efficiency in the leaf was increased, and the membrane relative permeability and the content of membrane lipid peroxidation product MDA were decreased, with an optimum treatment concentration at about 500 mg·L-1. It suggests that taurine has protective effects on the cell membrane of cucumber seedlings to a higher level.
