Title: The expression of viral antigens in the gallbladder mucosa of patients with hepatitis B
Abstract: Objective To investigate the distribution and location of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) and hepatitis B core antigen(HBcAg) in the gallbladder mucosa and the effects of HBV infection on the function of gallbladder. Methods HBsAg and HBcAg in the gallbladder mucosa were detected by S-P(SP) immunohistochemistry in 29 patients and 12 healthy controls.Serum HBV markers were identified by ELISA assay.Results(1)The positive rates of HBsAg and HBcAg in the gallbladder mucosa were 37.9%(11/29) and 20.68%(6/29).HBsAg was showed in brown particles that widely located in cytoplasma of mucosa epithelia cells of the gallbladder. However,HBcAg located in both cytoplasma and nucleus of cells in glandular epithelium and connective tissue.(2)HE staining showed that all mucosa epithelia cells of the gallbladder had chronic inflammation alteration, but there were no significantly pathological differences between patients with hepatitis B and healthy groups.(3)The relationship between gallbladder polyp and HBV infection was shown. An obviously expression of HBV antigens was identified in tissues surrounding hepatocellular carcinoma and the gallbladder mucosa. Conclusions HBsAg and HBcAg could be detected in the gallbladder mucosa in patients with hepatitis B.It suggested that the HBV could exist and replicate in extrahepatic tissue.
