Title: From "Vernacular Diction in Poetry" to "Liberation of Poetry Forms"——An analysis on Hu Shi's Proposals of New Poetry Forms
Abstract: Hu Shi is the founder of New Chinese Poetry. While starting to try composing Vernacular Poetry,Hu Shi’s principal aim is to testify that vernacular diction could be applied in poetry.Nevertheless,Hu Shi’s following proposal of the Great Liberation of Poetic Form is of a quite different nature,as it directs at the breaking-down of traditional Chinese Poetic Form. The many Traditional Chinese Vernacular Poems quoted by Hu Shi in his A History of the Vernacular Literature testify the idea that vernacular diction could well be applied into poetry is right, and at the same time prove that his proposal of the Great Liberation of Poetic Form is wrong(not right).Hu Shi himself did not realize the different natures between the two poetic proposals is because of his messy concept of the Vernacular and his two different definitions of the Vernacular Poetry.
