Title: 2D-FEM estimation of eddy current loss in permanent magnets of PMSM
Abstract: 2 dimensional finite element methods( 2D FEM) have a lot of advantages, such as fast computation, high accuracy, quick convergence and little fluctuation. In order to achieve the same accuracy,3D FEM requires a mesh which contains much more elements than 2D FEM,and this is a huge challenge for most computers. However,3D FEM can directly compute eddy current loss accurately while 2D FEM cannot. Eddy current loss in permanent magnets in a permanent magnet synchronous motor( PMSM),especially a high speed or a large power motor, can't be neglected, and the temperature rise of the magnets should be strictly limited, otherwise demagnetization will be caused. Therefore the temperature rise must be considered when designing a PMSM. This paper aims at estimating the eddy current loss in permanent magnets by 2D FEM,with the 3D condition taken into account. An estimation method is proposed in the paper and verified by the simulation for a Prius 04 EV motor.
