Title: Clinical application of transvaginal ultrasound in early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy
Abstract: Objective:To study prospectively serial transvaginal sonography for early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy through examining the patients with clinically suspected diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. Methods:The patients underwent repeated examinations. The accuracy of diagnosis from a single examination was compared with that from multiple examinations according to the standards for diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy by transvaginal ultrasound and the relating findings from operations. Results:Among all 200 cases undergoing multiple transvaginal ultrasound exsminations,103 cases were ectopic pregnancy(52.5%),97 cases were intrauterine pregnancy(47.5%).The accuracy of diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy was 80.5% all the fist examination,93.3% at the second time and 98% at the third time.2 cases were false positive ectopic pregnancy(at the fist examination),the rate of false positive was 1.9%.Conclusion:Transvaginal ultrasound is superior to transabdominal sonography all the aspect of early diagnosis in intrauterine and ectopic pregnancy.Serial transvaginal ultrasound demonstration can more greatly improve the accuracy of diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy than a single examination and can reduce the rate of false positive.
