Title: The study on learning and memory ability and specific brain district antioxidant enzyme activities in D-galactose model rats
Abstract: Objective To explore the relationship between learning and memory ability and antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD、CAT, GSH Px) in specific brain regions of D galactose model rats. Methods The aging models were induced by D galactose in 3-month old rats, and the learning and memory ability of aging model was determined in Model MG 2 maze. The activities of SOD, CAT, GSH Px in brain cortex, cerebellum, hippocampus, striatum, hypothalamus were determined after rats were killed immediately. Results The learning and memory ability of aging mode was lower than that of control group. The activity of SOD in three brain regions (cortex, hippocampus, striatum) was lower significantly ( P 0.05 and P 0. 01). The activity of CAT in four brain regions (cortex, hippocampus, striatum, hypothalamus) was lower significantly ( P 0.05 and P 0.01). The activity of GSH Px in five brain regions was indistinctive ( P 0.05). Conclusions The learning and memory ability of aging mode was lower. The change of antioxidant enzyme activities in hippocampus, cortex, striatum, hypothalamus was closely related to learning and memory ability.
