Title: Effects of benazepril on apoptosis and the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in the remnant kidney model
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor benazepril on apoptosis and the expression of Bcl 2 and Bax in the rat remnant kidney model. Methods Remnant kidney model was induced in adult male SD rats by 5/6 nephrectomy. Benazepril(10 mg/kg) was delivered daily by gavage. Apoptosis was evaluated by means of TUNEL and flow cytometry. The expression of Bcl 2 and Bax was detected by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Results Compared with those in the kidneys of sham operated group, the number of apoptotic cells was more and the expression of Bcl 2 and Bax was higher in the remnant kidneys. Benazepril caused a decrease in apoptotic phenomena and expression of Bax , and an increase in expression of Bcl 2. Conclusion Benazepril can inhibit apoptosis in remnant kidneys and regulating the expression of apoptosis related genes may be one of the mechanisms.
