Abstract: Menopausal hypertension refers to the merging of perimenopausal syndrome and hypertension. Ancient and modern clinical physicians in constantly sum up the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease. The etiology and pathogenesis including kidney Yin deficiency,kidney essence deficiency,liver and kidney Yin deficiency,liver failing to maintain normal flow of qi and blood,lack of qi and blood,Yin and Yang deficiency,ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang,phlegm turbidity obstructing and lucid yang failing to rise,Yin deficiency endogenous dryness,yang deficiency with water stop,heart and kidney are not harmorny,stasis due to the deficiency,losing equilibrium between Yin and Yang,disorder of thoroughfare and conception vessels,etc. The disease location is mainly in the liver and kidney,but it is closely related to zang-fu organs such as lung,heart,spleen. yin deficiency with yang hyperactivity is the most common etiology and pathogenesis,but being ill for a long time can cause to Yin and Yang deficiency. The disease development is complicated,not just yin deficiency with yang hyperactivity. Some also are with qi deficiency,Yang deficiency,disharmony of qi and blood,disorder of thoroughfare and conception vessels ,or including sputum ,turbidity,cold,blood stasis,etc.
