Title: EFFECTS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATIONS ON THE MORPHOLOGY IN HIPPOCAMPUS AND THE EXPRESSION OF INJURY-RELATED PROTEINS
Abstract:Objective: To explore the pathological alterations of hippocampus and the expression of injury-related proteins in Wistar rats irradiated by three kinds of band of electromagnetic radiations,thus to p...Objective: To explore the pathological alterations of hippocampus and the expression of injury-related proteins in Wistar rats irradiated by three kinds of band of electromagnetic radiations,thus to provide the biological basis for prevention and therapeutic measures.Methods A total of 126 rats were randomly divided into control group(C) s-band high power microwave(S) group,x-band high power microwave(X) group,and electromagnetic pulse(E) group.The latter 3 groups were irradiated by 100 mW·cm-2,100 mW·cm-2,and 6×104 V·m-1 respectively.The animals were killed 6 h,1 d,3 d,7 d,14 d,28 d after irradiation.Hippocampal sections with HE and TB staining were observed for pathological changes under lightmicroscopy.The expression of glia fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),IL-1β,iNOS proteins were detected with SP immunohistochemistry and image analysis.Results Lightmicroscopy showed degeneration and apoptosis in hippocampal neurons of three irradiated groups 6 h-7 d after irradiation The integral optical density(IOD) of Nissel bodies in E,S,X group(4.44±0.83,2.70±0.76,2.22±0.69 respectively) were significantly lower than in control group(13.76±4.88,P0.01) 3 d after irradiation.Electromicroscopy showed ischemic changes 6 h after irradiation,and vacuolization,secondary lysozymes,as well as widening and edema of intervascular space 3 d after irradiation in three irradiated groups.The IOD of IL-1β in S,X group(1.29±0.71,1.22±0.43 respectively) were significantiy higher than in control group(0.96±0.29,P0.01) 3 d after irradiation.And IOD of iNOS,GFAP in E,S,X group(1.44±0.60,1.87±0.52,1.69±0.43;0.14±0.07,0.16±0.07,0.16±0.07 respctively) were significantly higher and lower respectively than in control group(0.651±0.25,0.193±0.092 respectively,P0.05,P0.01).Conclusion Three kinds of band of electromagnetic irradiation all can damage rat hippocampal neurons to different extent in the order:XSE,and GFAP,IL-1β,and iNOS take part in the pathogenesis of electromagnetic irradiation-induced injury.Read More
