Title: Numerical Modeling of the Sandbar Evolution in Qiantang Estuary
Abstract: The formation and evolution process of the large sandbar in Qiantang estuary,China was simulated using Delft3D. The Qiantang Estuary was schematized to be a straight funne-l shaped estuary, floored with uniform sediment. The model was forced by tides at the downstream and river discharge at the upstream. The evolution of the sandbar was mainly controlled by the nonlinear interaction among hydrodynamics, sediment transport and bed evolution. The interaction between the flood and tide provided the hydrodynamic condition for the reproduction of the sandbar. The sediment input from the open sea was the essential material source for the sandbar formation.
