Title: THMFP Control of Drinking Water via Preoxidation of Chlorine Dioxide
Abstract: In order to reduce the formation of THMs in drinking watert, raditional prechlorination has bean replaced by preoxidation of chlorine dioxide.Chlorine dioxide adopted in the experiment was self-made with purity over 99%.Under dark/sealed conditions2,mg/L of chlorine dioxide was added to raw water to produce a reaction lasting 30 min.Analysis with ultrafiltration membrane of the change of thihalomathanes formation potential(THMFP) with different molecular weights shows that most small molecule materials have been chlorinated into THMs.After preoxidation of chlorine dioxide,THMFPs with different molecular weights have decreased and most macromolecular materials have changed into small molecule materials, which were difficult to react with chlorine to generate THMs.Experimental results show that THM for-mation is related to both the molecular weight and molecular structure. In addition, preoxidation of chlorine dioxide has apparent effect on the removal of turbidity and chroma.
