Title: Bacteriological detection in water of the "Two-rivers-and-four-lakes" in Guilin City
Abstract: OBJECTIVE Bacteriological detection was performed to analyze the quality of water in Two-rivers-and-fourlakes of Guilin City. METHODS Water was sampled at different sites of the Two-rivers-and-four-lakes in Guilin, and total bacterial count, coliform count, and the presence of intestinal bacteria in the samples were determined. RESULTS TheTwo-rivers-and-four-lakes of Guilin contained a total bacterial count of 102-103CFU / ml and a coliform count of around2 300 to 23 000 / L; the water was in α-mesosaprobic pollution and the quality was classified as Grade V of the national standard, which significantly exceeded the national health standards for drinking water quality. CONCLUSION Total bacterial count and coliform count in the Two-rivers-and-four-lakes of Guilin largely exceed the allowable standards, suggesting that the water body is seriously contaminated and revealing the possibility of fecal and water supply contaminations. The study provides theoretical guidelines for the protection and management of the water environment in Guilin and the improvement in water quality of the Two-rivers-and-four-lakes.
