Title: Expression of Caspase-9 gene in colorectal normal mucosa and cancer
Abstract: Objective To quantitatively measure the expression of Caspase-9 gene in human colorectal cancer and near-cancer normal mucosa so as to investigate the proper role of it in carcinogenesis in colorectal cancer. Methods Eighty-eight paired samples including near-cancer colorectal normal mucosa and matched cancerous tissue were included. Caspase-9 mRNA was detected by real-time PCR. Results Compared with near-cancer colorectal normal mucosa, the expression of Caspase-9 mRNA in cancerous tissue was lower (P = 0.003). The difference in expression of Caspase-9 mRNA was significant for cancer of different differentiation (P = 0.048),while not for Dukes stage, age, sex and lymph node status. Conclusion Compared to near-cancer colorectal normal mucosa, the expression of Caspase-9 is lower in cancer tissue, and is also related to cancer differentiation.
