Title: Performance Test Carried Out to Compare the Resistance between Hull Forms of Trimaran and Monohull Destroyer-Frigates
Abstract: The trimaran is a new hull form developed in 1990s. Due to its main body’s large length-beam ratio, which is far larger than that of traditional monohulls, the trimaran has lower wave-making resistance at high speed, and therefore has better resistance performance than the monohull. This paper establishes the model-full scale resistance conversion method for the trimaran hull form based on two dimensional method. The resistance test of a trimaran model with a length-beam ration about 13 is performed. The test results are compared with our country’s experimental data of series model tests of traditional monohull destroyer-frigate hull forms. The results show that the total resiatnce of the trimaran is lower than the monohull destroyer-frigate hull form by over 10%.
