Title: Analysis of computer-assisted quantitative image on histomorphology of the normal prostate and benign prostatic hyperplasia
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the histomorphology of normal prostate(NP) and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods:Computer-assisted quantitative image analysis was used to determine the histomorphology of 7 specimens of NP and 30 specimens of BPH with HE staining.Results:①The percentage of stroma, gland, epithelia and lumina in BPH were (62.18±8.14)%,(38.72±7.02)%, (17.96±4.03)% and (19.80±6.39)%, respectively. The ratios between stroma/ gland and stroma/ epithelia were (1.70±0.58)/ 1 and (3.70±1.24)/ 1, respectively, which were significately increased in comparison with that of NP ( P 0.05 and P 0.01,respectively). ②As the prostate volum increased, the percentage of stroma area was decreased, and the percentage of gland, epithelia and lumina area was increased. Conclusion:The hyperplasia is mainly occurred in stroma tissue in BPH. As the prostate volum increased, the percentage of stroma area is decreased, the percentage of gland, epithelia and lumina area are increased. The hyperplasia of stroma probably is the basis of the other tissues hyperplasia.
