Title: DISCUSSION ON THE UNIFICATION AND INHERITANCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL STRATIGRAPHY AND SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY
Abstract: Since the booming of the sequence stratigraphy, there have been a few articles using sequence stratigraphy theory to optimize traditional stratigraphic boundary, but few dealing with about the relationship between the traditional stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. In this article, in view of stratum genesis and geologic history, the authors discuss that the unification of traditional stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy lies on that both of them are the reflection of the sedimentary environment and its change. In certain scale, the changes of the sedimentary environment are in order and synchronous, which leads to the result that both of the traditional stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy are synchronous in variable scale and resolution. The history of geology indicates that it has experienced three phases, from static description phase to dynamic genesis phase, and to mechanism phase. The traditional stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy are respectively in the first and second phase, which indicates the inheritance relationship between the two kinds of stratigraphy. The relationship of the traditional stratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy make the integrate stratigraphy method become necessary. The method gives a good solution to the problem of the boundary of the base of the Neogene in Bonan area.
