Title: Clinical study of arterial stiffness in aged patients with essential hypertension and atherosclerosis
Abstract: Objective: To explore the changes of arterial stiffness and their relative factors in aged patients with essential hypertension and atherosclerosis. Methods: Ninety-eight hypertensive patients, aged 63~87 (aver age 65.42±10.78) years,69 male,29 female were selected. Automatic pulse wave velocity(PWV) system was applied to examine carotid-femoral PWV reflecting arterial stiffness .B-mode ultrasound was used to scan carotid artery. Whose common carotid artery intima-media thickness≥1.3mm was defined as atherosclerosis. Results: Among 98 patients with EH,38 presented carotid atherosclerosis. Systolic blood pressure was 149.93±18.25 vs 141.12±20.10 mm Hg,PWV was 12.36±2.12 vs 10.49±2.76m/s,which were significantly higher in EH patients with carotid atherosclerosis (P0.001). Mutivariate regressive analysis demonstrated that age and systolic blood pressure had close relationship with PWV(P0.001). Conclusions: Aged hypertension and atherosclerosis can increase the arterial stiffness which is closely related with age and systolic blood pressure.
