Title: Acute toxicity and potassium-sparing effect of Compound Triamterene
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the safety and the potassium-sparing effect of Compound Triamterene. Methods:NIH mice and SD rats were given 6% Triamterene, 30% Hydrochlorothiazide and Compound Triamterene by mouth.Acute toxicity and potassium-sparing effects of Triamterene, Hydrochlorothiazide and Compound Triamterene were observed. Results:The acute toxicity of Compound Triamterene was lower than that of Triamterene or Hydrochlorothiazide. The urinary excretion and potassium excretion in Hydrochlorothiazide group were markedly higher than that of control group(P0.01).The increase of urinary excretion in Triamterene group was not evident, whereas potassium excretion reduced evidently (P0.01).The increasement of urinary excretion in Compound Triamterene group was evident (P0.01),and potassium excretion reduced a little. Conclusion: The safety of Compound Triamterene is good. When Triamterene used with Hydrochlorothiaxide, the diuretic effect will be increased and the hypodalemia will be prevented.
