Title: Effect of Blood Pressure Variability on Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Elderly Patients with Essential Hypertension
Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of blood pressure variability (BPV) on left ventricular hypertrophy in elderly patients with essential hypertension. Methods 100 cases of elderly patients with essential hypertension were divided into two groups:Left ventricular hypertrophy group and non-left ventricular hypertrophy group. All patients were undergone 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. The BPV was determined by standard deviation form mean blood pressure during the 24 hours. Results SBPV in Left ventricular hypertrophy group was higher than that in non-left ventricular hypertrophy group (p0.01).There was a positive correlation between the SBPV and left ventricular mass index (LVMI).There was no correlation between the DBPV and LVMI. Conclusions The left ventricular hypertrophy was closely related to the SBPV.Elderly patients with essential hypertension will be attcked with left ventricular hypertrophy more frequently.
